Saint Xavier University (SXU) will host the Archdiocese of Chicago's South Side Teacher Hiring Fair for Catholic schools. The event will take place on Wednesday, April 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Butler Reception Room located on SXU's Chicago campus at 3700 W. 103rd Street.

Attendees will connect with Catholic schools throughout the city and suburbs, explore teaching opportunities rooted in faith and academic excellence, meet school leaders, learn about open positions, and have a chance to apply and interview.

"The Education Division is fortunate to have a terrific partnership with the Archdiocese of Chicago, and we're happy to welcome principals and other school personnel to campus for this wonderful and mutually beneficial event," said Tony DeCesare, Ph.D., interim director of SXU's Education Division.

The Education Division is committed to providing students with career and networking opportunities. In a recent survey from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), 87% of Illinois schools reported having trouble finding enough teachers to fill open positions.

"Our goal is not just to prepare outstanding teacher candidates --which we've been doing for decades-- but also to provide multiple opportunities for students to earn teaching jobs so that we are helping to address the teacher shortage and giving our students the chance to do the meaningful work we've prepared them to do," said DeCesare.

The hiring fair is open to educators interested in teaching preschool through 8th grade, aspiring teachers and recent graduates, current teachers exploring new opportunities, and career-changers interested in Catholic education. Catholic schools offer supportive communities, strong academics, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact in students' lives.

"The outstanding faculty and staff in the Education Division at SXU are fully committed to preparing our students to be servant leaders, lifelong learners, scholar-activists, compassionate advocates, and reflective and responsive educators. That is what our Mercy mission compels us to do. Our partnership with the Archdiocese of Chicago embodies that mission-related work perfectly, and this hiring fair is one of the many ways the partnership directly benefits our students as well as our schools and surrounding communities," said DeCesare.
