SXU Senior Earns Finance Certificates
Saint Xavier University (SXU) senior Adriana Witkus, who recently graduated, finished her undergraduate career by earning finance certificates that will give her a strong professional advantage and enhance her career readiness.
Witkus double majored in business administration and finance, choosing those subjects to build a strong, versatile foundation that would allow her to understand both the financial and operational sides of business.
"Through my experience, I've realized how closely operations and finance are connected – whether it's managing contracts, supporting leadership, or staying organized across projects. These majors give me the ability to contribute to both areas, which I see as a strong foundation for my future career," said Witkus.
When Witkus had the opportunity at SXU to pursue certificates in futures and options and risk management, she moved forward quickly, knowing that the topics are essential in modern finance, especially when it comes to managing uncertainty and strategic investment decisions.
"Earning these certificates required focused coursework, analytical thinking, and applying real-world financial concepts. I believe they will give me a strong professional advantage by equipping me with specialized knowledge that can be directly applied in roles involving financial analysis, investing or risk assessment," said Witkus.
Witkus was drawn to SXU because she was looking for a school where she could feel supported while also being challenged to grow.
"The smaller campus environment and class sizes made it possible to connect with professors and peers on a more personal level, which has been a huge part of my development," said Witkus. "In my time at SXU, I've developed strong communication, organization and analytical skills through coursework and real-world experiences. Additionally, I've learned how to manage responsibilities effectively, think critically, and adapt in fast-paced environments – skills I know will be invaluable in my career."
Witkus is grateful for the professors who made a meaningful impact on her experience at SXU.
"Drs. [Brian] Hill, [David] Parker, and [Cyndi] Grobmeier provided guidance, support and willingness to invest in student success that helped shape both my academic journey and my confidence as I prepare for my career," said Witkus.
While at SXU, Witkus was also involved on the track and field team, which pushed her to stay disciplined and helped shape her work ethic and ability to stay focused and adaptable. She also enjoyed living on campus, which gave her the opportunity to build strong, lasting friendships, be more involved in campus community, and experience college in a more meaningful way.
"The day-to-day moments – whether just study sessions, relaxing after long days, or being surrounded by community – are what made my experience so meaningful," said Witkus.
As Witkus looks to the future, she plans to continue growing professionally in her current role as an administrative assistant at an architecture firm.
"I'm grateful for my time at SXU and the opportunities it has provided me. The experiences, relationships and knowledge I’ve gained will stay with me as I move forward in my career."
