SXU to Host Fall Advising and Career Success Day
Saint Xavier University (SXU) will host its annual fall Advising and Career Success Day on Wednesday, October 16, from 9 to 4 p.m. The event will be held at various locations on campus throughout the day, where students will connect with advisors, attend professional and personal development sessions focused on academic and career success, network with alumni and mentors, and explore internship and job opportunities at the College-to-Career Expo.
"Academic and Career Success Day was established to ensure that students can connect with their academic advisors and explore career opportunities. Academic advising is a pivotal component of the educational experience at SXU, allowing students to explore their academic interests in depth and aiding in connecting their academic path to future career endeavors. Throughout the day, students will be able to learn more about advising procedures and technologies utilized at SXU to ensure that they understand the program requirements to stay on track for graduation," said Tatiana Alaraj, director of advising.
From 9 to 10 a.m. in McGuire Hall and the Butler Reception Room, students can attend sessions related to job searching. Advising fundamentals will be presented from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Andrew Conference Center and various other locations. Students can participate in a social networking event from 11 a.m. to noon and the College-to-Career Expo from noon to 2 p.m. From 2 to 4 p.m., students will meet with their faculty advisors.
Included in the day will be a Major Mixer, where students will be able to discuss major and minor options with faculty. Upperclassmen will also be able to connect with faculty members in their major to gain more insight into how they should prepare for their futures as graduation nears.
"The Advising and Career Success Day at Saint Xavier is such a unique and special career readiness event. I am most excited by the blend of business, nonprofit, education and health care organizations who will be in attendance. The diversity of our employer base gives students of every grade level, major and focus someone to speak to. This year, we've implemented a new idea, asking our large class of incoming freshmen to attend as part of their Transitions coursework. While employers might not be traditionally interested in speaking to students who are still four years from graduating, we've asked those who would like to start the conversation early to declare themselves 'freshmen friendly.' This will go a long way toward building comfortable bridges for students to the world of employment waiting for them after graduation," said James Miller, associate director of employment engagement and internships.
The Advising and Career Success Day team is excited to provide resources to students and give them this time to connect with faculty and advisors to answer questions they may have regarding their academic progression at SXU.
