Saint Xavier University (SXU) sports communication major Natalie Chibe is spending her summer as an on-site social media intern for the Windy City Thunderbolts. Chibe is responsible for updating fans about the team, games, events, deals, promotions and more through the team’s official social media accounts.

"This is an amazing opportunity. Over the last few summers, I have worked at WXAV as a producer for the team's radio broadcasts, so it is very thrilling to come on site and see how game operations work," said Chibe.

In the fall, Chibe will be taking on the role of music director at WXAV, SXU’s student-run radio station, where she will be hosting interviews with bands and covering various concerts in the Chicago area to promote on the station's social media accounts. She'll also connect with radio promoters and labels from all across the country to promote new music.

Chibe's always been passionate about radio and sports broadcasting, so the sports communication major at SXU was the perfect draw for her.

"I was very excited when I found a major that would allow me to pursue my passions professionally. I chose SXU not only because of its affordability and proximity to home but because my mother is an SXU alumna! She would tell me stories of how much she enjoyed the campus, and I knew SXU would be the place for me," said Chibe.

Chibe, who will be a senior in the fall, has found her classes to be exceptionally helpful in preparing her for her future endeavors.

"My classes have taught me skills that I currently use for my summer internship, such as audio and video editing, photography and photo editing, and the logistics behind social media and broadcasting. I also have learned important writing skills, such as how to write a resume, cover letter, and articles," said Chibe.

Saint Xavier is known for sparking lifelong friendships, and Chibe finds the people at the University to be her favorite part about being a student there.

"I have met so many amazing people that I am so happy to call my friends. At SXU, I have learned so many things from others due to the diverse student body. Everyone there is so nice and comforting, and I feel welcome everywhere I go," said Chibe.

Chibe is involved on campus as a member of WXAV, Fish 'n' Chips, SXU's commercial music ensemble, the SXU Dance Team, and the Schmitt Scholars Program.

In the future, Chibe hopes to have a career in the broadcasting or sports industry and is particularly interested in music radio or covering a professional sports team.

"Thanks to the classes and professors at SXU, I believe I am able to achieve my goals. I love being a part of the SXU community and will always have the fondest memories of my time here. Go Cougs!"
