Saint Xavier University (SXU) senior Hayat Hamoudah has received the College of Liberal Arts and Education's Outstanding Political Science Student Award.

"Earning this designation feels incredibly rewarding and validating. It's a testament to the hard work and dedication I've put into my studies and the support I've received from my professors and peers," said Hamoudah.

Hamoudah was selected for her excellent academic performance and history of taking on challenging and high-impact learning opportunities. During her junior year, she interned with Bushra Amiwala, an elected official for the Skokie Board of Education, where she gained valuable insight into the political process and community engagement.

Hamoudah, who also has a minor in criminal justice, is graduating summa cum laude. She maintains a GPA of 3.97 and has been named to the Dean's List all four years of her undergraduate career. She is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society, and also received the Arab American Achievement Award earlier in the semester.

Driven to advocate for social change and with a passion for understanding political systems and policymaking, Hamoudah was drawn to study political science. She believes the classes she's taken at SXU have provided her with a comprehensive understanding of political theory, research methods and practical skills that will be instrumental in her future career endeavors.

"One of the most impactful experiences I've had at SXU was participating in Pi Sigma Alpha, which has allowed me to engage with like-minded peers and faculty, further enhancing my academic and professional development. Additionally, my internship gave me the opportunity to attend conferences, assist with community outreach, and gain hands-on experience in local governance," said Hamoudah.

While at SXU, Hamoudah has enjoyed engaging in class discussions, attending guest lectures and events, and forming lifelong friendships with fellow students.

Hamoudah's future plans include pursuing graduate studies in political science or a related field with the goal of furthering her knowledge and skills in areas such as public policy, advocacy or international relations.

"I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and am grateful for the education and experiences I've gained at SXU that have prepared me for whatever path I choose to take."
