Saint Xavier University’s (SXU) Master of Science in Exercise Science (MSES) has recently been recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association's (NSCA) Education Recognition Program. The program recognizes and distinguishes programs with approved and standardized strength and conditioning curricula.

"The recognition highlights the rigor of our curriculum and provides students with the confidence that they are part of a program that will set them up for success," said Brad Leshinske, Ph.D., divisional director of Health Sciences.

When selecting institutions, the NSCA Education Recognition Program goes through a rigorous process. Selected institutions must meet fundamental criteria that demonstrates students enrolled in an exercise program are well-prepared to enter and excel in the workforce. An institution must offer a research methods course that provides students the proper structure to conduct research, a proper curriculum scaffolding, a research agenda and completed research by faculty, and a challenging, stimulating syllabus that is purposefully designed.

As part of Saint Xavier's recognition in the program, students will receive discounts on memberships, exams including the Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS) exams, and national conferences. The program also offers professional development opportunities and industry connections as well as grants, internships and other resources.

Since its launch in 2023, the MSES program has been incredibly successful. As it evolves, the program continues to seek new ways to innovate and is working to add new concentrations and more elective courses. In 2024, the new nutritional sciences concentration was added to the program and already has a full first cohort.

"The distinction of having the Education Recognition Program status attached to our programs is critical for students. A curriculum backed by the NSCA-ERP will propel our students ahead of their competitors when applying for jobs and enhance their knowledge for success in their careers," said Leshinske.
