SXU Student Awarded Novolex Chairman's Scholarship
Saint Xavier University (SXU) senior Lesley Zavala has been awarded the Novolex Chairman's Scholarship. Recipients are eligible to receive up to $5,000 to use toward their college education expenses.
Novolex is a North American leader in packaging choice and sustainability serving retail, grocery, food service, hospitality, and institutional and industrial markets. The Chairman's Scholarship is awarded each year to children of Novolex employees who succeed in their education.
"Novolex introduced the Chairman's Scholarship in December 2021. It provides children of Novolex employees in the U.S. with scholarship funds for technical schools as well as accredited colleges and universities. Five children are awarded an annual stipend for up to four years. To receive it, I had to fill out an application and write an essay," Zavala said.
Among one of five recipients of the Chairman's Scholarship, Zavala couldn't be more grateful to be noticed for her academic accomplishments and appreciates the opportunity to eliminate some financial burden.
"I was in disbelief when I received my award letter, but it quickly turned into excitement. I was very grateful to have been selected as one of the recipients. I will be able to pay a significant amount of my tuition, which will make this coming year more comfortable for me," Zavala said.
Zavala is triple-majoring in political science, international studies, and Spanish and is hoping to pursue a career in human rights and attend graduate school in the future. Thanks to the scholarship and the experience she is gaining at SXU, she is on track to live out those dreams.
"The classes I have taken at SXU have greatly prepared me for my future career. The small class sizes have given me the opportunity to build good relationships with my professors. My courses have kept me busy, and they are providing me with the knowledge and skills I need to be successful in my future career. My courses and the faculty have also made me confident in myself and my abilities," Zavala said.
Throughout Zavala's academic journey, choosing to come to SXU had been one of her greatest decisions.
"I chose SXU because of the smaller class sizes, and I wanted to continue learning from experienced and influential professors. I have met amazing people throughout my time here, and I enjoy meeting students who make an impact in my life," Zavala said.
