2021: A Look Back at Our 175th Anniversary
As 2021 comes to an end, Saint Xavier University (SXU) looks back on its 175th year with pride. The institution has evolved immeasurably since its founding by the Sisters of Mercy in 1846, and 2021 was a remarkable year, filled with celebration and jubilance. The Saint Xavier community celebrated in a multitude of ways, including:
- 175th Anniversary Homecoming
- Into the Light: A Gathering of Religious Artifacts from the Permanent Collection in Celebration of the 175th Anniversary of Saint Xavier University
- Unveil the Ale – Introduction of "1846"
- 175th Anniversary Gala
As faculty, staff, students and alumni celebrated together, they also reflected on SXU's significant moments, rich history and perpetuation of its Mercy mission. Friends and community leaders also joined in the celebration, sending congratulatory letters and even an official state resolution honoring Saint Xavier's important legacy within Chicago.
Congratulatory Letter from Chicago Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot
Significant Milestone Proclamation from Senator Celina Villanueva
Congratulatory Letter from Congresswoman Marie Newman
We are blessed to end this meaningful year on such a celebratory note and enter the new year filled with hope, ambition and joy. Saint Xavier's 175th year has been a wonderful one, and we look forward to continuing to build on our legacy for another 175 years!
