SXU Offers Summer 2019 Dual Credit Courses for High School Students
Saint Xavier University (SXU) is proud to offer a range of summer camp and course experiences to youth in the community that inspire creativity, expand their knowledge and physical skills, and motivate them to lead in their schools as well as their communities. SXU's summer camps and courses incorporate practical lessons with hands-on learning led by SXU professors and staff. Plus, each camp is held on the University's beautiful campus on the South Side of Chicago, exposing attendees to the college environment and preparing them for the future.
Among the camps and courses offered in 2019 will be three dual credit courses -- Intro to Nursing, Intro to Speech-Language Pathology and Summer Logic.
High school students who aspire to pursue the health care industry are invited to participate in the Intro to Nursing dual credit course. Attendees will be introduced to nursing practice while earning college credit in this course held from Monday through Thursday, July 8 through 18. This one-credit hour course is reserved for high school students who are at least junior-level students.
High school students participating in the Intro to Speech-Language Pathology dual credit course can receive an introduction into the very-growing profession of speech-language pathology while earning college credit. Held from Monday through Thursday, July 8 through 17, students will visit SXU's Ludden Speech and Language Clinic and simulation labs, as well as explore tools that are used for treatments.
The final dual credit course offered by SXU is the Summer Logic course, introducing high school students to the study of reasoning while earning college credit. Students will learn how to identify and assess arguments through lectures from SXU faculty and collaborative group work. The course will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from June 3 to July 3.
