SXU Hosts a Week of Events to Celebrate 2019 MLK Week

Date:01/15/2019

In celebration of the life and memory of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Saint Xavier University (SXU) has organized a number of events to be held throughout the week:

Day of Service: Hosted by Rush Medical College
The Day of Service is to support current and future underrepresented minority medical students, addressing the needs of underserved communities, and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians in the Chicagoland area and beyond. Transportation is provided. Check-in will be from 7 to 7:30 a.m. on Monday, January 21.

His Dream, Their Dream Our Reality
Join Tracy Crump, Ph.D., assistant professor of Criminal Justice and director of African-American Studies, as she facilitates a panel discussion on the tenets of Dr. King's dream, presenting the impact of the civil rights movement on African-Americans and society, and making suggestions as to how we can move forward. The panel will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. in McGuire Hall on Tuesday, January 22.

His Dream, Our Reality & Flip Schulke Collection
Honor the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as you listen to fellow students read their favorite excerpts from King's speeches. Immediately following the excerpts readings, participants are welcome to view the work of Flip Schulke, a civil rights photo journalist. The event will be held at 1 p.m. in the Butler Reception Room on Wednesday, January 23.

SXU Speaks: His Dream Continued
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream changed over the course of his lifetime. Join Paige Samuels, vice president of diversity and inclusion on SXU, in an exploration of King's philosophy after the famed "I Have a Dream" speech.
