SXU's Bridget Giblin Crowned 2019 Queen of Chicago Gaelic Park

Saint Xavier University (SXU) biology major Bridget Giblin was crowned as the 2019 Queen of Chicago Gaelic Park at an event last weekend hosted by the Gaelic Park Board of Directors along with coordinator Maura Kenny. Gaelic Park offers this competition to single women of Irish heritage between the ages of 18 and 20 who have a connection to keeping alive the Gaelic Park message. Requirements include high academic dedication, keeping up with Irish culture and a well-rounded history of volunteering in the community. Judges face a difficult task every year before crowning the queen and were ultimately drawn to Giblin.

Giblin of Crestwood is a graduate of Oak Forest High School and is currently studying biology and pre-med at SXU on a full scholarship. She is also a current student ambassador at the University and regularly spends her free time playing Gaelic football and volleyball, volunteering at Park Lawn and playing the fiddle. As the 2019 Queen of Chicago Gaelic Park, Giblin will attend a wide array of Irish and Irish-American functions as a representative of the Park.

Gaelic Park President Bill O'Sullivan commented that the late Kay Knightly -- the founder of the Queen contest -- would have been incredibly proud to see the eight young women who appeared in this year's competition have such high goals and carry on the traditions of their Irish heritage. The event was further noted by the annual function falling on International Women's Day.
