SXU student has aspirations for the medical field

Date:05/08/2018

Saint Xavier University (SXU) is proud to have a student body made up of individuals who dream big. With a wide variety of courses and on-campus resources, students have the opportunity to explore career paths that aid them in discovering what they will do post-graduation. While some find the idea of following their dreams to be incredibly daunting, junior biology pre-health major and chemistry minor Frank Raymond welcomes the challenge.

"After graduation, I plan on attending medical school and becoming a hematologist oncologist (blood cancer doctor)," said Raymond. "My family has gone through some struggles with leukemia, and I know that I have been given a great opportunity to help people in the future with similar ailments."

He knows that the journey ahead will not be easy, but feels that the work he will be able to do will be worth it in the long-run. Raymond has always dreamed of working in the medical field and hopes that SXU can continue to facilitate that passion.

With a bit of guidance from his aunt, SXU's Dr. Stacie Raymond, D.C., he made the decision to join the SXU community. A transfer student, Raymond chose to attend SXU because of the biology pre-health program. The kind faculty and welcoming student body were standouts to him.

"Every faculty member I've spoken with is so helpful and understanding," said Raymond. "They're passionate about their positions and want to help the students succeed. Following suit, the students are also in this journey through college together."

During his short time at SXU Raymond has been on the Dean's List and was even named the biological honor society's (Tri Beta's) President, a title he is undoubtedly proud to possess. He has also made lifelong friends within the biology department and beyond. Although he was initially unsure if he would enjoy his time at SXU, Raymond is confident that he made the right decision.

"In my very first class here, students to the left and right of me noticed that I was new and reached out to me," said Raymond. "They made me feel like part of the SXU family, which is something you don't always get at bigger schools."

Outside of his many academic accomplishments Raymond also happens to be an expert when it comes to playing pool. This skill has helped fuel his competitive nature, pushing him to reach any goal he sets out to accomplish.

"It started as a fun hobby for me, but I was lucky enough to meet some great people who taught me a few things and now I compete on a national level," said Raymond.

With a drive towards success and the mindset of a champion, there is no doubt that Raymond has a bright future ahead of him.

"For me, my passion is serving those with blood cancers and hopefully saving their lives," said Raymond. "I challenge everyone reading this to think deeply about their passions, and how they can help others."

Thank you, Frank! SXU cannot wait to see where your career in the medical field will take you!
