SXU Health Center offers immunizations for 2018 – 2019 school year

Date:07/18/2018

Ah, summer! The sun is out, the kids are playing and the impending school year is not on anyone's mind. The ease and relaxation of summer can often make it easy to forget that kids can get sick. Good thing the Saint Xavier University (SXU) Health Center is already planning for the beginning of the school year with vaccinations for children!

Due to the rise in preventable diseases such as pertussis (whopping cough) and measles, it is becoming increasingly important to protect children and maintain their health with vaccines. Local families are welcome to receive their immunizations at the new location of the Health Center on SXU's Chicago campus, 3925 W. 103rd Street.

"Receiving all recommended immunizations is one of the most important things you can do to protect yourself and your children against diseases such as measles, whopping cough and influenza," said Katie Schlee, nurse practitioner and director of Clinical Services at SXU's Health Center.

The SXU Health Center offers not only mandatory vaccines that students must have to enter kindergarten through grade 12; they also carry recommended vaccines such as shingles, pneumonia, Gardasil (HPV) and influenza. For students entering grades sixth and 12th, it is also necessary they show proof of the meningitis vaccine, which can be administered by a friendly nurse practitioner at the Heal Center.

While same-day appointments are available, reserving an appointment is recommended to reduce your waiting time. Most health insurances cover the cost of preventative vaccines at 100 percent. For carriers that do not fully cover services, SXU's Health Center has the option of low, self-pay rates, with the acceptance of cash, credit or check. All community members are welcome to use the Health Center and its services!
