SXU alumna receives the Outstanding Beginning Teacher Award
On Tuesday, April 17, recent SXU alumna Samantha Garcia is receiving the Outstanding Beginning Teacher Award in Springfield at the Illinois Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (IACTE) conference. This honor is bestowed on a beginning teacher during the first three years of practice.
This will be the first time in SXU history that an education student has been recognized at the state level!
A 2016 elementary education graduate, Garcia currently teaches the second grade at Our Lady of the Snows Elementary School in Chicago. Her mission as a bilingual and bicultural first-year teacher is to build a culturally and socially inclusive classroom that prepares all for a diverse democracy.
Join the Education Department in congratulating Samantha Garcia on this great accomplishment!
