SXU's Abdul-Majid Wazwaz Highly Cited Researcher
As an influential and awarded educator with over thirty years of experience teaching on both sides of the Atlantic, research and publication have become almost as common as breathing for Saint Xavier University’s (SXU) Abdul-Majid Wazwaz. Pursuing what is approaching three decades of accomplishment as a professor in the SXU Department of Mathematics, Wazwaz has been selected as a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher five years in a row.
Highly Cited Researchers represent some of the global community's most influential scientific minds. According to Clarivate Analytics, around three thousands researchers earn distinction to this annual list by writing the greatest number of reports and the top one percent are subsequently the most cited in their subject fields. To be considered as an addition to this accomplished list ultimately depends on the number of citations a researchers receives from other authors.
Clarivate Analytics's criteria weighed a variety of factors, including: citation counts of articles, quality of research and the year of publication. More information about the list's ranking methodologies is available online.
"This means a lot to me because it shows that the achievements and the progress that I obtained in my works are useful and promising," said Wazwaz following his fourth consecutive selection as a Highly Cited Researcher. "This also prompts me to pursue my professional development for the sake of making further progress. Hence why it is such an honor; when my own peers in the broader mathematical community depend on my research to help in theirs, it is a recognition that is beyond my description."
Receiving his undergraduate degree in 1968 from Cairo University in Egypt, Wazwaz came to the United States in 1974 to begin his graduate studies. He earned his Master of Science in Mathematics degree in 1975 from Western Illinois University and his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics in 1981 from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Over the course of his career, Wazwaz has been an educator in Jerusalem at Ibrahimieh University College and Al-Quds University and in Chicago at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Saint Xavier University. He has published over 300 articles and reports in a range of academic journals and continues his research to this day.
