SXU Hosts Fifth Annual Jazz Guitar Workshop
On Saturday, November 17, guitarists of all ages are welcome and encouraged to experience the wonders of music at Saint Xavier University’s (SXU) Fifth Annual Jazz Guitar Workshop Day where attendees will look at the various styles connected with Latin Jazz and how performers master its melodies on the guitar.
The workshop is open to students of all ages. Attendees may bring either their acoustic or electric guitar and a basic knowledge of fretboard, performance technique and music notation reading will be helpful. While at the workshop, students will be exposed to the various rhythmic accompaniment patterns and chord voicings of bossa nova, samba, Afro-Cuban and a variety of other Latin feels.
The Fifth Annual Jazz Guitar Workshop Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room G-113 of the Warde Academic Center. For more information or to register, visit the SXU website. Questions regarding the workshop may be directed to Shawn Salmon, director of Jazz Studies, at salmonFREESXU.
