Alumna and transfer student finds success as broadcast reporter
Here at Saint Xavier University (SXU), our alumni continue to make us proud of their accomplishments in the wide variety of professions in which they work. Alumna Christine Manika is just one example of an SXU success story.
After learning that her first university was closing, Manika had no choice but to find a new institution to continue her education. Being a junior in college at the time, she was nervous as to what she would find when going through the college process a second time. Manika needed a university that offered a smooth transition from her previous school and hoped to find a place that would continue to cultivate her ability to fulfill her dreams of becoming a broadcast sports reporter.
"When I visited [Saint Xavier], they welcomed me with open arms and they could not have been more helpful," said Manika. "They really embraced my situation and were willing to do whatever it would take to help me graduate on time."
At SXU, Manika was able to stay on track with her studies. She did not fall behind in coursework and even found a home-away-from-home at SXU's radio station, WXAV. Despite her fear of graduating late, Manika successfully completed her bachelor's degree in communication without any setbacks. She credits much of her success at SXU to the wonderful faculty and staff that helped her along the way.
Today, Manika works as a reporter for KDLT-TV News in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
"I feel blessed to have found Saint Xavier," said Manika. "No matter where I am, I will always be proud to show my Cougar Nation pride."
Congratulations on your accomplishments, Christine! SXU is proud of your commitment to making your dreams come true!
