SXU Accounting Major Brittany Petrowsky Earns PCAOB Scholarship
Saint Xavier University (SXU) Accounting major Brittany Petrowsky was selected as the winner of this year's Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Scholarship Award. Petrowsky was awarded $10,000, which goes directly toward her schooling for this academic year.
The PCAOB's mission is to oversee the audits of public companies, to protect the interests of investors and to further the public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate and independent audit reports. The PCAOB also oversees the audits of broker-dealers, including compliance reports filed pursuant to federal securities laws, to promote investor protection.
The PCAOB has established the scholarship program to provide a source of funding to encourage outstanding undergraduate and graduate students to pursue a career in auditing. Scholarships are one-time awards made payable to the educational institution for eligible expenses such as tuition, fees, books and supplies. The PCAOB supports the development of a diverse accounting profession and encourages educational institutions to consider students from populations that have been historically underrepresented in the profession.
Petrowsky is from the Frankfort area and works hard to balance school, family, life and running a small business with her husband.
"I am honored to receive this recognition," said Petrowsky. "My interest in business and accounting stems from watching the business news network CNBC. I have a genuine interest in investing, the economy and the business community. Getting my bachelor's degree in accounting is important to me because it is the language of business, so no matter what career path I choose I know I will be well prepared. I am genuinely excited to pursue a career in public accounting."
Petrowsky was nominated for this scholarship by one of her accounting professors, Alex King, Ph.D.
"While having Brittany in my auditing class, she quickly stood out as a bright and inquisitive student, exhibiting qualities crucial for success as an auditor," said King. "Through discussions inside and outside of class, it was clear she had an interest in and propensity for auditing."
SXU could not be more proud of Petrowsky for her continued dedication and congratulate her on earning this prestigious award.
