SXU's Eileen Quinn Knight appointed to Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (Education)
Saint Xavier University’s (SXU) Department of Education Professor Eileen Quinn Knight, Ph.D., has been appointed to the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (APC) which is a consultative body to the Archbishop of Chicago and is broadly representative of our local church. It draws members from the laity, religious and clergy. The Archdiocese has six vicariates and each vicariate has several deaneries. Each parish in each deanery sends two representatives to the deanery’s meetings, and from these deanery representatives, two are discerned to attend the APC meetings as delegates from the deanery. Deanery delegates serve three-year terms, and can serve a total of two consecutive terms, or a total of six years.
Other APC delegates are appointed representatives from lay organizations, deacons, Presbyterian Council, Archdiocesan Women’s Committee, Youth Council, Young Adults, Pastoral Associates, Directors of Religious Education, Sisters, Brothers, and Religious Priests.
The APC meets five times a year – in September, November, January, March and May/June – with the Archbishop. Each fall, the Archbishop assigns the APC three issues to discuss with him during the coming year. The Archbishop also may seek input from the APC on other issues over the course of the year. At the May/June meeting, APC members present issues to the Archbishop that are of interest to the parishes or communities they represent.
