SXU's Meg Carroll presents at conference and to local educators
On December 5, Saint Xavier University (SXU) School of Education (SOE) Professor Meg Carroll, Ed.D., conducted a workshop for the teachers of Saint Helen in Ukrainian Village, Chicago, on the use of anchor activities as part of a differentiated instruction strategy. On December 9, she presented at the 40th Annual Statewide Conference for Teachers of Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Students; her session was entitled Teaching Middle and High School English Learners with Disabilities. A significant number of SXU alumnae who work with English Learners attended the session; the alumnae teach at Oak Lawn High School (School District 229), Stagg High School (School District 230), Kelly High School (CPS), and Plank Junior High (Oswego School District 308), among others. On December 12, Prof. Carroll provided a workshop for first and second year teachers and their mentors in SD 159; the session was hosted at Colin Powell Middle School in Matteson and the presentation was entitled Special Education and Inclusionary Practices.
