SXU’s Visual Arts Center hosts “Opposites Unite!” as first fall exhibit
Saint Xavier University's Visual Arts Center (VAC), located at 10435 S. Spaulding Avenue, will host "Opposites Unite!" as its opening fall semester exhibition starting Monday, August 22 to Thursday, September 22.
The principle of "opposite forces" can be found in nearly every culture or religion, from Newton's Third Law of Physics to the Chinese philosophy of yin/yang. This latter reference, however, describes how opposite or contrary forces are actually complementary, interconnected and interdependent in the natural world.
With this in mind, five sets of partnered students will decide upon their own yin/yang concept. Each partner will begin at opposite sides of a modular wall, working in their personal style. However, continuous dialogue must occur as they progress toward the center, in order to coalesce both images and style into a single entity.
Come view their progress through the opening weeks of fall semester, and see how, like two sides of a coin, opposites can unite!
VAC hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, please contact Art and Design Professor Cathie Ruggie Saunders at 773.298.3087 or saundersFREESXU.
