SXU Celebrates 170th Anniversary on December 1
Saint Xavier University's (SXU) 170th Anniversary marks a long and rich history of providing an invaluable higher education experience in the liberal arts and sciences to generations of students. This year, SXU’s significant milestone will coincide with the annual Founders’ Day celebration on Thursday, December 1.
All are invited to gather for a memorable celebration of prayer, music, art, poetry, dance and proclamation, with a special focus on the Sisters of Mercy, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the McDonough Chapel of the Mother of Mercy. Sister Patricia McDermott, president of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, will offer a blessing and keynote address. All Sisters present will be invited to join the Saint Xavier Chorale in the singing of Catherine McAuley’s Suscipe.
Following the Chapel ceremony, the University will host a reception in the Butler Reception Room on the first floor of the Warde Academic Center that will feature refreshments and musical entertainment. Some select works of art by Sisters of Mercy and other works related to Mercy will be on display in the foyer of the McDonough Chapel of the Mother of Mercy, as well as in the foyer outside of the Butler Reception Room.
