Mercy Word of the Week

Date:04/26/2016

The Mercy Word of the Week

As we progress through the Jubilee Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis, University Ministry offers our community a "Mercy Word of the Week" to help us focus on the themes of mercy that are already so closely aligned to our mission and heritage as an institution sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy.

The first Monday of each month will bring a brief reflection on each of the University’s Core Values as expressions of our Mercy charism. We hope these focused thoughts will lead to your own considered contemplation on mercy and its role in your life.

Patience: It is told that there was a time when if a person missed a stage coach, it was no problem. They just waited for the next one to to come six month later. Now, in our time, people have a breakdown if they miss one section of the revolving door! The problem is that in speeding up our society, we too often fail to realize that life is about more than speed. Coming to appreciate the difference between God’s time and our time is essential to becoming spiritual people. God’s time is what prepares us to function well in our time. To live the God life means learning to compost our souls in patience. So prepare and then wait. In God’s good time, God’s Will will come. We pray: All-knowing God, give me what I need, but only when you know that I am ready to receive it.
