ESL and Bilingual Education Endorsements
The program is designed for graduate students who are interested in coursework leading to an ESL and/or Bilingual Education Endorsement. Graduate students who complete the program in English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or bilingual education may choose to continue the coursework toward the master of arts degree by completing the core courses and additional coursework approved by the advisor and the associate dean. Completing the M.A. in TESOL program does not lead to state licensure.
Coursework required for the ESL and Bilingual Education Endorsement program include six courses or 18 credit hours of study following ISBE requirements. Completion of the six courses leads to a letter of endorsement. Passing a state proficiency exam in a second language leads to a bilingual endorsement.
Please view the admission requirements page, as well as the program requirements and course descriptions in the SXU Academic Catalog for additional information.
