Testing Accommodation Guidelines

The Center for Accessibility Resources can only accommodate center students, particularly center students with testing accommodations.

Testing accommodations for students with disabilities must be the sole responsibility of each student and be arranged in accordance with the faculty member and the staff in the Center for Accessibility Resources prior to the testing date.

It is the student's responsibility to initiate this service and to comply with the following procedures listed below.

Testing Hours

Monday-Friday

8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Based on the Center for Accessibility Resources testing schedule, students may begin their exam up to five (5) minutes early and up to fifteen (15) minutes late. However, their end time will remain the same. If a student is more than fifteen (15) minutes late to a scheduled exam start time, they will need to contact their course instructor/professor for approval to take the test at an alternative time and with the center to reschedule the exam.

Online Exam Procedures

  1. If you are enrolled in a strictly online course, you should plan to take exams with accommodations on the course platform.
  2. Please note, the Testing Accommodations Form is not needed for online exams that will be taken outside of the Center for Accessibility Resources.
  3. The student should contact their professor prior to any online exams or quizzes to remind the professor of their testing accommodations.

In-Person Exam Procedures

  1. As a student, you are responsible for contacting your instructor/professor(s) to discuss testing accommodations as stated in your Accommodation Letter.
  2. Arrange and plan with your professor regarding each exam/quiz and your intention to take the exam/quiz in the Center for Accessibility Resources.
  3. Obtain a physical copy (available at the Center for Accessibility Resources office) or an online version of the Testing Accommodation Form, and complete the "Student's Responsibility" portion. You or the instructor/professor should return the completed form to the Center for Accessibility Resources.
    1. If the instructor/professor is not available to fill out their portion, please have the instructor/professor email accessibilityservicesFREESXU with any specific instructions.
  4. Students are responsible for scheduling their exams no later than three (3) business days prior to the date of the exam. For example, if the exam is on Monday, the form must be submitted on the Wednesday prior to the date of the exam.
    1. During finals week of the semester, students must schedule their exam five (5) business days prior to the date of the exam.
      1. Due to the number of students the center serves and with limited seating/resources, the center cannot schedule your testing accommodations without three (3) or five (5) respective business days' notice, even with instructor/professor approval.
  5. Exams are administered based solely on the information provided by the instructor/professor. If the instructor/professor makes any changes to the exam (e.g., student notes, open textbook), the instructor/professor must send an email to accessibilityservicesFREESXU with the changes.
  6. If a student needs to take the exam on a different day/time than the rest of the class, the student should discuss the need for an alternate day/time with the professor.

Changes to Your Exam Appointment

If an instructor/professor changes an exam date/time, the student is responsible for notifying the necessary details (student name, class name, instructor/professor name, and exam date/time) to accessibilityservicesFREESXU. The student MUST carbon copy (cc) the instructor/professor on this email in order for this to be valid.
