Biography
Brytish C. Moore-Thomas finds her greatest joy in being a faithful wife to Anthony Thomas and loving mother to their three gifted children. She is also a respected musician, educator and advocate for education, mental health and the arts.
Thomas earned a master's degree in music education from Vandercook College of Music; a bachelor's degree in music education from Northern Illinois University; and a certificate in worship studies from The Worship Arts Conservatory. She is currently a seminary student pursuing her doctorate in clinical pastoral counseling.
Prior to joining the SXU family, Thomas has performed on some of Chicago's most prestigious stages and has taught piano and vocal music from elementary school to college levels, both public and private, for more than 20 years. Thomas has also served as music director for live CD recordings, concerts and conferences. She values every opportunity to share with others as a youth worker, minister of music and consultant under B. Moore Productions, a company she founded in 1998, and Thomas Counseling and Consultant Services, where she and her husband are the proprietors. Thomas has been awarded several honors, including the Tribute to Black Women in Jazz Rising Star Award and a nomination for Grammy Music Teacher of the Year.
Thomas is excited to begin this new journey at SXU as she will provide support, guidance and resources to students as they pursue their success in higher education and personal goals.
Thomas accredits her faith in God and personal life experiences along with several mentors who have influenced her and helped shape her into the woman she is today. She enjoys quality family time, serving in ministry alongside her husband where he is the senior pastor, listening to and performing a variety of musical styles -- especially gospel, jazz and classical -- reading, traveling, arts and crafts, and developing her green thumb!
