Biography

Karina Fierro is a Latina first-generation college graduate and the first nurse in her family. Her nursing experience started when she worked as a patient care technician on a women and infants unit. Fierro went on to work in the emergency room as a technician and in the ICU during nursing school. Her first nursing job was in the surgical intermediate medical care unit, where she further developed her clinical assessment and nursing intervention skills. Currently, Fierro works in a dual role as a clinical nurse educator where she gets to educate and manage chronic illnesses for the Latino and underserved population in Chicago. Her professional passions include education, research, and quality patient care. Fierro loves to spend her free time with her friends, family, and her two cats and dog. She is excited to be at SXU and work with the future of nursing!
