Biography

Greg Coutts is currently the chair of the Music Department (since 1997), director of theoretical studies and an associate professor at Saint Xavier University. At Saint Xavier, Dr. Coutts has taught courses in music theory, aural skills, counterpoint and form and analysis, in addition to applied composition.

Dr. Coutts holds a bachelor of arts degree in music education from West Liberty State University, West Virginia; a master of music degree in music theory/composition and vocal performance from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois; and a doctor of philosophy degree in music theory from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. Dr. Coutts' research interests include contemporary vocal/choral music and the application of technology as it relates to music theory instruction.

Additionally, Dr. Coutts serves as the director of music ministries at Grace Fellowship Church in Oak Forest, Illinois.
