Biography
Brett Baxter received his undergraduate degree in percussion performance from the University of Missouri -- Kansas City, studying with Dr. Jim Snell and graduating magna cum laude. He then went on to graduate studies at Northwestern University, receiving a master's degree in percussion performance and literature. There he studied with Michael Burritt, Jim Ross and Paul Wertico.
In 2005, Baxter was the national winner of the Music Teachers National Association's annual Young Artist percussion competition. He performed on the winner's concert at the MTNA conference in Seattle, Washington. He has performed with the Michael Burritt Percussion Group, Third Coast Percussion, Marimba Sol de Chiapas, the Northwest Indiana Symphony and has appeared as a soloist at the Illinois PAS Day of Percussion at Columbia College.
Baxter is currently an adjunct professor of percussion at Saint Xavier University. Additionally, he is active as a performer, educator and clinician in many different avenues of percussion in the Chicagoland area.
