Biography

Marianne J. McGeary joined the SXU Education Division in 2018 after twenty years teaching secondary English, theater and journalism at Brother Rice, Riverside Brookfield, and CPS Marine Leadership Academy. At Marine, she chaired the English department and led the dual credit program through Malcom X College, a City College of Chicago.

In 2023, McGeary joined Language and Literature in the College of Liberal Arts and Education (CLAE). She serves on the Faculty Senate as a humanities representative.

An SXU alumna, McGeary feels she is home when on Saint Xavier's beautiful campus. She is a South Sider who grew up in the Roseland neighborhood. Her family has a long history with SXU, beginning with Sister Mary Del Rey, who lived and taught chemistry at Saint Xavier from 1942 to 1990.

As often as possible, McGeary visits Dublin—James Joyce country—and England’s Lake District, home to William Wordsworth.
