Advising and Academic Information
Advising and Educational Planning Services provides academic counseling to traditional, transfer and continuing education students. All SXU students are assigned a faculty or staff advisor who assists them in planning their course of study, selecting appropriate classes and reaching their academic goals.
The Office of Records and Registration and the Career Development Center staff is also available to explain academic requirements, policies and procedures; to provide information on transfer credit and alternative options for earning credit; and to refer students to a variety of University student services.
Students can earn credit for life/work experience from military training, company sponsored training and community service. Credit is awarded for military in accordance with the recommendations of the American Council on Education (ACE) when appropriate to the student's curriculum.
Students can also earn credit through the College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP®). To assist military personnel in meeting their educational goals, the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) funds CLEP exams for eligible military service members and eligible civilian employees. More information is available on the College Board website.
Through our degree completion programs at Saint Xavier University, students may develop a portfolio to receive credit for learning acquired outside the classroom environment. A one credit-hour Portfolio Development course (FOSEM 110) is designed to guide students through the portfolio process by assisting them in developing a personal professional narrative, documenting evidence of prior learning, and writing competency statements.
