Financial Aid Information

Veterans who served on active duty, a minimum of 90 days aggregate or 30 days continuous if discharged for a disability, on or after September 11, 2001 may be eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill^®. Funds can be used for tuition and fees, books and supplies, and housing costs. This program allows for 36 months of benefits and works in conjunction with Yellow Ribbon. Unused educational benefits can be transferred to the spouse or children of the veteran.

The Yellow Ribbon Program is a supplement to the Post 9/11 GI Bill. As a participant, Saint Xavier University funds 50% of your tuition and fee costs that are outstanding after the Post 9/11 GI Bill is applied, and the federal Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) funds the other 50%. Veteran students who are eligible for Yellow Ribbon can have 100% of their tuition and fee costs met using this program.

For example:

*Total tuition and fee cost for a full-time (12 or more credit hours per semester) undergraduate student for the 2020-2021 academic year. Funds are paid directly to Saint Xavier University.

Saint Xavier University does not limit the number of students who can receive SXU's Yellow Ribbon funding or the University's contribution. It is available for all degree levels and programs of study at SXU.

To participate in Yellow Ribbon, complete and submit the Veteran Online Application (VONAPP) available online at the Department of Veteran Affairs, then bring your Certificate of Eligibility to Saint Xavier University so that your benefits can be processed.

Veterans who entered military service, with a minimum of two years of continuous enlistment, on or after July 1, 1985 may be eligible to utilize the Montgomery GI Bill. Funds can be used to meet tuition and fee costs, and allow for 36 months of benefits. It is generally available for use for 10 years from the last date of active duty.

Veterans who have been determined eligible by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs may have access to the Vocational Readiness and Employment Program, which includes a monthly stipend and can cover portions of tuition, fees, books and supplies.

Post-Vietnam veterans who entered active duty on or after January 1, 1977 and before July 1, 1985, and contributed to VEAP may be eligible. Those who elected to have contributions made from their military pay, are eligible for a government match on a 2-for-1 basis. Benefit entitlement is for up to 36 months and must be used within 10 years of the date of release from active duty.

Children and spouses of veterans who died or are permanently and totally disabled as the result of a service-connected disability, as well as the children and spouses of veterans who have been listed as a POW or MIA for a period of 90 days, may be eligible for DEA benefits. Benefits are paid for up to 45 months; monthly allowance is based on enrollment.

Students who are members of the National Guard or Selected Reserve may be eligible for MGIB SR benefits. The minimum length of service requirement is six years. Benefits are paid for up to 36 months; monthly allowance is based on enrollment.

Members of the National Guard or Selected Reserve who were called or ordered to active duty, for a minimum of 90 days of continuous service after September 11, 2001, in response to a war or national emergency as declared by the President or Congress may be eligible for REAP benefits. This program provides a monthly allowance based on enrollment, for up to 36 months.

Veteran students may be eligible for additional student financial aid assistance by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). By filing the FAFSA, Saint Xavier University will evaluate your eligibility for several federal, state and institutional scholarship, grant, loan and work-study programs.

Many businesses and community organizations offer scholarships to students. Individual scholarships have unique sets of criteria and varying deadline dates.
