Communication Sciences and Disorders Post-Baccalaureate Requirements

Any candidate seeking admission into our graduate Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program whose major from their bachelor's degree is, or will be, in something other than Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is considered a "non-major."

In addition to completing the CSDCAS application process for admission consideration into our graduate SLP program, as explained on our graduate programs admission requirements page under the application requirements/procedures in the Speech-Language Pathology section, non-majors are required to complete six specific undergraduate level CSD courses, commonly referred to on our end as CSD bridge courses. Non-majors have the option to complete the bridge courses shown below, as offered at Saint Xavier University, or to complete the equivalency thereof at another four-year institution.

Fall schedule:

  • CSDI 206: Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing
  • CSDI 305: Development of Language in the Young Child
  • CSDI 307: Introduction to Audiology

Spring schedule:

  • CSDI 205: Phonetics
  • CSDI 207/CSDIL 207: Introduction to Speech Science and Lab
  • CSDI 308: Aural Rehabilitation

For non-majors to be considered for admission into our graduate SLP program, they must:

  • Complete the bridge courses before the period at which they would potentially begin the graduate SLP program. For example, non-majors seeking admission into our graduate SLP program for fall of 2025 must have the bridge courses completed by August of 2025. Note: while it is acceptable and common for non-majors to still be in the process of completing bridge courses during the time at which they complete CSDCAS application process to start the graduate SLP program for the following fall, non-majors are encouraged to have some of the six bridge courses completed before or during the fall semester one year prior to their desired start of the graduate SLP program.
  • Achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0, on a scale of 4.0, in the bridge courses.
  • Complete the CSDCAS application process for the graduate SLP program. The deadline for CSDCAS application completion, which includes having an application and all required supporting documents submitted, in any given year, is January 15 for the following fall semester.

To seek approval for enrolling in the six CSD bridge courses at Saint Xavier University, please apply for the CSD Post-Baccalaureate Program through the Transfer Application.
