International Admission and Application Requirements
- May 1 deadline for fall semester applicants
- October 1 deadline for spring semester applicants
First-time undergraduate students must submit the following:
- Online application for undergraduate admission.
- Transcript evaluation from either Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or World Education Services (WES). The evaluation should be a course-by-course evaluation and show the student has achieved the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma.
- Official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. For consideration, applicants must score a minimum of 80 on the Internet based TOEFL exam, 550 on the paper based exam or 213 on the computer based exam. (Note: The TOEFL ITP exam is not accepted.) The minimum score required for the IELTS is 6.5.
- Letter of recommendation attesting to the student's ability to succeed in college and proficiency in English.
- A notarized affidavit of support form (PDF) and a notarized bank statement or letter showing the student has financial sponsorship in the amount of $37,940 (or $50,440 if living on campus). The bank statement must be for a sponsor's personal checking or savings account (investment accounts and business accounts are not accepted) and must be written in English by the sponsor's bank or translated into English.
- A photocopy or facsimile of the identification page and expiration page of the student's passport.
Application Completion Deadlines for International Students: Applications and all materials must be received by the dates below.

Undergraduate students transferring from international institutions must submit the following:
- Online application for undergraduate admission.
- Official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. For consideration, applicants must score a minimum of 80 on the Internet based TOEFL exam, 550 on the paper based exam or 213 on the computer based exam. (Note: The TOEFL ITP exam is not accepted.) The minimum score required for the IELTS is 6.5.
- Official transcript evaluation of any undergraduate coursework from colleges/universities attended outside the U.S. Students should request a course-by-course evaluation from either Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or World Education Services (WES).

- Official transcripts from all U.S. institutions the student has attended. (An English language proficiency exam may be required depending on the courses completed thus far at a U.S. institution).
- Official transcript evaluation of any undergraduate coursework from colleges/universities attended outside the U.S. Students should request a course-by-course evaluation from either Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or World Education Services (WES).
- A notarized affidavit of support form (PDF) and notarized bank letter showing the student has financial sponsorship in the amount of $37,940 (or $50,440 if living on campus). The bank statement must be for a sponsor's personal checking or savings account (investment accounts and business accounts are not accepted) and must be written in English by the sponsor's bank or translated into English.
- A photocopy or facsimile of the identification page and expiration page of the student's passport, the student's current F-1 visa, the I-20 form from the student's current institution, and the I-94 form documenting the student's original entry into the country.
- May 1 for fall semester (August)
- October 1 for spring semester (January)
A completed application includes the application itself, plus all required checklist items as described on this page.
The information on this page is for non-U.S. citizens possessing the U.S. equivalency of a bachelor's degree, or a U.S. bachelor's degree, who desire to enroll as an international student into graduate school at SXU (Saint Xavier University).
The business and education programs listed below are the only graduate programs available to international students:
Business (program completion results in MBA degree)
- Master of Business Administration: Fraud Examination and Management
- Master of Business Administration: Healthcare Management
- Master of Business Administration: Management
Education (program completion results in Illinois PEL {Professional Educator License} and M.A. degree)
- Master of Arts: Secondary Education (Traditional) (grade range = 9-12)
- Master of Arts: Special Education (not yet licensed) (grade range = K-age 22)
How to Apply
To apply for a graduate program listed above, first fill out and submit our Graduate Student Application. There is no application fee. Answer all questions in all sections on the application
accurately and completely.
Checklist Items Required for Application Completion
After submitting your application, you will receive an email within 24 hours confirming
receipt of your application and providing you with instructions for submitting the
following application checklist items required to complete your application for review:
- Academic: official course-by-course evaluation of non-U.S. transcripts: For any non-U.S. college/university attended, we require an official, course-by-course evaluation of your transcripts showing the U.S. equivalency. The evaluation must be completed by ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators), WES (World Education Services), or EP (Educational Perspectives). Do not send us the actual transcripts. Only send us the evaluation from ECE, WES, or EP.
- Academic: official transcripts of U.S. colleges/universities: For any U.S. college/university attended, we require your official transcripts from them. Do not send us your transcripts from any non-U.S. college/university.
- English Proficiency: We require one of the following (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, or 3e), as described below.
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - must score minimum of 80 on internet-based version, or 550 on paper-based version, or 213 on computer-based version. (Note: The TOEFL ITP exam is not accepted.)
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - must score minimum of 6.5 overall band score.
- ELS (English Language Services) - satisfactory completion of ELS level 112.
- Official transcripts from a U.S. college/university indicating satisfactory completion of a full program or degree.
- Origination from a country where English is the official, primary language will be considered. If this is the case, please notify our Office of Graduate Admission.
- Financial: We require 4a and 4b, or only 4c, as described below.
- Notarized Saint Xavier University Affidavit of Support Form indicating financial sponsorship of a minimum of $35,000 in U.S. dollars. It is acceptable to sponsor oneself. The affidavit form must be filled out in English; and it must show financial amounts in U.S. dollars. The name of the sponsor listed on the affidavit form must match the name of the bank account holder listed in checklist item 4b. You must use the Saint Xavier University affidavit form and it must be notarized.
- Notarized Bank Document: bank statement or letter from your bank indicating an account balance converted to U.S. dollars, equaling the amount listed on the Saint Xavier University affidavit of support described in checklist item 4a. The name of the bank account holder must match the name of the sponsor listed Saint Xavier University affidavit form. The account(s) must be personal checking or savings accounts; investment accounts and business accounts are not accepted. The bank statement or bank letter must be written in English by a representative from the bank showing the account balance in U.S. dollars; and it must be notarized.
- Scholarship Letter: If you will be receiving any scholarship(s) from outside organizations to cover your tuition/expenses as a graduate student at Saint Xavier University, we require a copy of the scholarship letter. The copy of your scholarship letter you send to us will be given consideration for waiving checklist items 4a and 4b to meet our financial requirement. Please be aware Saint Xavier University does not have scholarships for international students.
- Passport: We require a copy of your passport. We need both sides - the identification page and expiration page.
Completed Application
After receiving all required checklist items described above, your completed application will be reviewed for an admission decision. Should the review of your application result in a favorable decision, we will contact you to discuss the processing of any and all documents and forms required for your enrollment (Visa, I-20, I-94, etc.).
