Student Testimonial

John Lafe Shannon
Sociology major
Class of 2018

"Throughout my four years at Saint Xavier University, the Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice Department was instrumental to my success as a student. I began my college career like countless other students; overwhelmed and unsure of what to study. After my first anthropology course, however, I became inspired to pursue archaeology. As a Sociology major with minors in History, Anthropology, and Middle Eastern Studies, I was encouraged and supported by department faculty to study abroad and spent the summer of 2017 digging at a Neolithic site in central China. My time spent in China solidified my desire to become an archaeologist and provided me with invaluable hands-on experience. The skills taught to me at Saint Xavier university, coupled with the opportunity to study abroad, have served me well in my later fieldwork as well as my graduate studies. Ultimately, the Sociology major and Anthropology minor have prepared me for myriad future endeavors both inside and outside academia."
