Philosophy Minor

Philosophy is the pursuit of knowledge, truth, and wisdom. It seeks to understand fundamental “truths” about the world, primarily by using logic and reasoning to derive knowledge. The Philosophy minor is an excellent complement for students who are interested in pursuing graduate work in a related field (including certain professional programs, such as law or medicine), and those seeking a strong liberal arts education, either for its own sake or as preparation for entering the work force.

Minor Requirements

To receive a minor a philosophy, students must take PHIL 140 or PHIL 150, The Examined Life (which is already a general education requirement), one of  three courses in the history of philosophy (PHIL 304: Studies in Ancient Philosophy, PHIL 306: Early Modern Philosophy, or PHIL 307: Late Modern Philosophy), and four electives in Philosophy, which totals 18 credit hours.

Please review the program requirements and course descriptions in the SXU Academic Catalog for more detailed information. To declare your minor, please fill out the Intent to Minor form found on the Records and Registrations Forms page.
