About the Program
The Master's degree in Nutritional Sciences appeals to those seeking a better understanding
of the scientific principles of human nutrition and their application within sport,
health and fitness, tactical and clinical settings. The coursework adheres to the
guidelines and practices of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, helping
students become experts in the field.
The program is designed for students with a bachelor's degree in a science-related
or health-related field and can be completed in one year (accelerated) or two years
(traditional). Coursework is delivered in 8-week blocks and focuses on macro- and
micro-nutrient metabolism along with energy balance and the relationship of nutrition
with body composition, chronic diseases and sports performance. Students also select
an applied research project where they apply their interest in a specific topic related
to nutrition and gain hands-on practical experience while developing scientific research
skills. Upon completing the program, students will be eligible to sit for the International
Sports Society of Nutrition (ISSN) certification exam.
Students enrolled in the MSES will have access to the Human Performance Lab located in Saint Xavier's Center for Health and Wellness. This lab is dedicated to bringing our students the most up-to-date exercise and sport science technology, including:

In their final semester, students will spend two days onsite working with this equipment to further understand how theory bridges to application.
