About the Program
Our Computer Information Systems program strives to provide students with the set of skills they need to succeed in a rapidly expanding IT industry. Our curriculum was developed with three major priorities:
- Foundational Computer Science Core Knowledge
- Project-Based Learning and Portfolio Development
- Industrial-Relevant Skill Development
As with most of our programs, a computer information systems program prioritizes project-based learning. Students will complete a strategy capstone that asks them to synthesize their knowledge and skills to work on real-world relevant projects. In addition, students will have a significant project in most of their classes intended to allow them to practice the skills covered by that class.
Students enrolled in the web design concentration will be involved in hands-on training
through regular class labs and a capstone course that is designed to keep up with
the latest technologies in web design. Students will be taking some of their classes
using the RIZE platform, which will help students enhance their set of skills and
teach them new tools used in current web design technologies.
The capstone course (CMPSC 393) will significantly enhance student learning outcomes and engagement. It will introduce students to project-based learning and peer learning and collaborations, involve industrial experts and guest speakers, and apply the latest technologies related to user-centered design. The capstone class will be provided by RIZE.
- Students will design, implement, and publish a new website.
- Students will learn product usability, the basics of User Experience (UX) design and research, and how to build wireframes and prototypes.
- Students will be able to build effective user experiences through a rigorous process of implementing best practices, testing designs, and iterating.
- Students will be able to design and implement a mobile app or website prototype and iterate upon it based on user feedback.
Why should prospective students choose SXU for their degree?
- Highly qualified faculty.

- Saint Xavier University’s core values of service, integrity, and excellence, critically important in the IT industry, support your development as an asset to your employer and community.
The Game Design minor offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Education is an excellent complement to the Game Development concentration. This minor has significant career potential as it provides grounding in digital and web design.
The Computer Science minor is an alternative to the Computer Science major with Game Development concentration. It consists of six courses, four of which are electives. The student can choose game development courses to fulfill the elective requirements.
