Guitarists of all ages were welcome to attend the Third Annual SXU Jazz Guitar Workshop Day at Saint Xavier University.

The workshop topic was:

"The Genius of Jazz Guitarist Charlie Christian."

To mark the centennial year of Charlie Christian's birth, the SXU Jazz Guitar Workshop Day was dedicated to examining the life and music that made Charlie Christian one of jazz's most influential voices. Charlie Christian burst onto the jazz scene in 1939, working primarily with the Benny Goodman small groups. His fresh improvisational melodies are some of our earliest examples of bebop. The workshop examined several of Christian's most memorable solos and looked at ways we can assimilate these musical traits into our own improvisations

Registration is now closed. Questions regarding the workshop may be directed to Shawn Salmon, director of Jazz Studies, at
