Chemistry Department

Chemistry is the study of matter, energy and the connection between the two. Bringing together mathematics, biology, physics, medicine and other sciences, chemistry serves as an excellent foundation for understanding the world around you. Academic work in this area instills in students superior analytic and problem-solving skills, develops strong process skills for laboratory work and provides "molecular spectacles" with which to view the world.

Programs of Study

The Chemistry Department offers a range of programs, which includes majors in natural science and chemistry with the option of a biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or physical chemistry concentration. It also offers a minor in chemistry.

Coursework in Chemistry, Physics and Physical Science supports students in major programs in Biology, Nursing and Education, and also prepares pre-professional students for professional school success in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Optometry, Podiatry, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Clinical Chemistry and Chiropractic. Other courses in Chemistry, Physical Science and Physics are designed for enrichment and can be taken as electives or to fulfill core requirements in general education.
