chemistry Facilities
Students who are enrolled in Saint Xavier University's chemistry program have access to various facilities, both on campus and off campus, that will help them engage in the science and learn from a hands-on experience.
Instruments and Computers
Students use modern instrumentation in chemistry and physics classes as well as in independent research projects. Computers are used in data collection and analysis and also for modeling and Web assignments. Department computers include Windows, Macintosh and Linux platforms. In addition, the University has several student computer laboratories and many campus areas set up for wireless Internet connections.
Chemistry laboratory equipment includes:
- atomic absorption spectrometers (AA)
- fluorescence spectrometer
- Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometers (FTIR)
- gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (GC-MS)
- gas and liquid chromatographs (GC, HPLC)
- nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer (FTNMR)
- polarography and voltammetry equipment
- polarized light microscope (PLM)
- Raman spectrophotometer
- ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometers (UV-VIS)
Other equipment includes:
- iBooks
- Vernier and Pasco software and technology
- MacSpartan molecular modeling software
