Student Success Program

Mission and Background

Mission

The Student Success Program, a federally funded TRIO program, serves students who are first generation, low-income and/or have disabilities, by supporting academic and personal development and encouraging completion of students' baccalaureate degrees through counseling, advising and supplemental academic instruction.

Background

The United States is committed to providing educational opportunity for all Americans regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstances. In support of this commitment, Congress established a series of programs to fulfill this mission.

These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, and are referred to as TRIO Programs. Other TRIO programs include Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, Educational Opportunity Centers, the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, Veterans' Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math/Science.
