Fall 2012 LLC Program

Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) offer a unique experience for students. During the 2012-2013 year, we will offer two Healthy Living LLCs. Residents in an LLC will take select courses together related to the LLC theme, live together in the residence hall, and take part in theme-related programs.

The Healthy Living LLC will explore many aspects of leading a health-conscious lifestyle—physical, mental, environmental, and spiritual. During the Fall semester, participants will focus on eating habits as well as making healthy decisions that positively impact the environment. Students will be enrolled in one of two possible courses – a First-Year Seminar, “The Good Life,” or a philosophy course, “The Examined Life” – in addition to a common Transitions course. All three courses satisfy University requirements.

For the Spring semester, students will continue to live together and will be encouraged to enroll in suggested courses related to the theme.

Examples of programming include participation on intramural teams, taking fitness and nutrition classes at the student fitness center, and working with student government. Co-curricular activities—the ones associated with coursework—include retreat opportunities and off-campus field trips to places like The Green City Market, the Chicago Botanical Gardens, and the Chicago Museum of Art.

For more information about the LLC, please contact the Residence Life office at 773-298-3977 or reslife@sxu.edu.
