The University Student Health Insurance Plan is available to Saint Xavier University undergraduate students registered at 6 or more hours for the 2017-2018 academic year. The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA) includes requirements for student health insurance plans. The SXU Insurance plan is in compliance with PPACA requirements. You will also find information here about how to waive your enrollment in the SXU Insurance Plan and other pertinent insurance information.
The University requires all undergraduate students registered for 6 or more hours in a semester to carry adequate health insurance to cover, among other costs, hospitalization and outpatient diagnostic and surgical procedures. Additionally, if you reside in Chicago during the academic year, your insurance must cover medical care provided in the Chicago area for both emergency and non-emergency medical situations.
In keeping with this requirement, each year all insurance eligible students are automatically enrolled in the University Student Health Insurance Plan. If you wish to waive out of the plan coverage, you must provide proof of alternate comparable coverage before the enrollment/waiver deadline. Unless you waive SXU Health Insurance enrollment during the open enrollment period, you will remain enrolled in the Health Insurance Plan coverage and the Office of the Bursar will bill you for the premium for the entire plan year (August 11, 2017 through August 10, 2018).
Detailed information about the plan can be found at First Student. Go to the Saint Xavier University drop-down menu for more information.
