Coverage Options

Saint Xavier University offers a University Student Health Insurance Plan to provide comprehensive, affordable insurance coverage to its students; The SXU plan is fully compliant with the requirements for student health plans under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Students may waive their enrollment in the plan by providing proof of active insurance coverage through an alternate plan that meets the University’s requirements for comparable coverage.

The plan year runs from August 11, 2015 to August 10, 2016. Annual benefits are applied to services received during this period of time.

Student Health Coverage

The University Student Health Insurance Plan coverage features a $500 annual deductible, and covers 80% for Preferred Allowance* and 50% of Usual and Customary for most covered services.

RX Benefit: Coverage for prescription drugs** is unlimited per policy year. Medicines are provided in three tiers, each with a different co-pay:

The plan covers essential health benefits, as required of student health plans by ACA.

The student plan coverage also is available to dependent spouses and children.

Registered, eligible students who do not waive their enrollment prior to the enrollment/waiver deadline of September 21 will remain enrolled in the plan for the entire 2015-2016 academic year.


The annual premium for the SXU Health Plan is assessed in two installments during the academic year, for a period of coverage beginning on August 11, 2015 and ending on August 10, 2016.  These charges typically are added to the fall and spring tuition bills. Students (and dependents*) who begin enrollment in spring or summer semester, or who only are enrolled in spring semester but not in fall, will be charged for spring/summer semester premium.

Health Insurance Billing Cycles

The 2015-2016 University Student Health Insurance Plan year runs from August 11, 2015 through August 10, 2016. As noted above, students and their dependents are charged an annual premium which is typically assessed in two installments. The chart below indicates those semesters that students’ tuition bills are charged an insurance premium installment, based on their first quarter’s registration in the academic year.
