The Elaine Gallagher Science Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students in the Education Department (formerly known as the School of Education) who are science majors in secondary education or students in early childhood or elementary education who may teach science at any level. This scholarship is funded by a donation from the estate of alumna Elaine Gallagher and gifts given in her memory.
The Committee of the Elaine Gallagher Science Education Scholarship seeks to honor Ms. Gallagher by assisting an admitted Education Department student who possesses the excellence, hospitality, service, and lifelong learning qualities of Elaine Gallagher. The scholarship is a tuition grant available to students who are science majors in secondary education or students in early childhood or elementary education or graduate programs who may teach science at any level.
Exact amount of tuition grants depends on available funds from endowments and individual student's account status. Please check with Financial Aid before applying.
- Applicants must complete the online application form below. Letters of recommendation should be emailed directly to email@example.com by the recommender. Complete applications will include the application form, the essay, two letters of recommendation and a resume. Only complete applications will be reviewed.
- Applicants must submit an essay (double-spaced, one to two pages). Please tell the scholarship committee about the qualities (excellence, hospitality, service, lifelong learning) of Ms. Elaine Gallagher that you possess, providing specific examples. Include the plans you have for your work in the field of education.
- Please request that two persons write letters of recommendation for you. One recommendation should be from a faculty member in education at Saint Xavier University. The second recommendation should be from someone external to the University and who knows your professional or volunteer work related to education or one of your current or previous science instructors. The letters of recommendation should be sent by the writers directly to Dr. Meg Carroll at firstname.lastname@example.org by 5 p.m. on February 23, 2018.
