Scholarship Details

The Dorothy Ritter Davis Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students in the Education Department (formerly known as the School of Education) with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. This scholarship is funded by a donation from the late Dorothy Ritter Davis, class of 1933.

The Award

The Dorothy Ritter Davis Scholarship Committee seeks to honor her by assisting an admitted Education Department student who possesses the core values of excellence, compassion, service and appreciation of diversity exemplified by Mrs. Davis. Applicants must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. The scholarship is a grant applied towards tuition in the following academic year.

Exact amount of tuition grants depends on available funds from endowments and individual student's account status. Please check with Financial Aid before applying.


  • Applicants must complete the online application form below. Letters of recommendation should be emailed directly to by the writers. Complete applications will include the application form, the essay, two letters of recommendation and a resume. Only complete applications will be reviewed.
  • Applicants must have a 3.0 grade-point average
  • Applicants must submit an essay (double-spaced, one to two pages). Please tell the scholarship committee about the values of Mrs. Davis that you share, providing specific examples. Include the plans you have for your work in the field of education
  • Two letters of recommendation are required. One recommendation must be from a faculty member at Saint Xavier University. The other recommendation should be from someone external to the University and who knows your professional or volunteer work related to education. The letters of recommendation should refer to the values of excellence, compassion, service and appreciation of diversity and should be emailed directly by the writers to Dr. Meg Carroll at by 5 p.m. on February 23, 2018.
