Saint Xavier's University Chorale performs April 21

Spring Concert at Morgan Park Baptist Church

Chicago (April 4, 2007) – The University Chorale of Saint Xavier University will perform its Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Morgan Park Baptist Church, 11024 S. Bell St., Chicago.

The program includes a performance of Franz Schubert’s celebrated Mass in G Major for chorus, strings and organ, paired with Johannes Brahms’ Marienlieder, a cycle of seven songs in praise of the Blessed Mother. The concert is open to the public. General admission is $10 and $8 for senior citizens and visiting students. The concert is free for Saint Xavier students, faculty and staff with a valid University ID.

The 42-voice University Chorale, complemented by string players from the SXU faculty, Chicago Civic Orchestra and other groups, is made up of students and members of the community.

“The Schubert Mass is performed frequently, but few people are familiar with Brahms’ Marienlieder. These pieces are gorgeous little gems of choral writing, and the Chorale sings them beautifully,” said Jennifer Kerr Budziak, adjunct professor of choral music at Saint Xavier.
