SXU Concert Band to perform with pianist Janina Kuzmas on March 8

Band performs at Beverly Arts Center

Chicago (Feb. 21, 2007) – Pianist Janina Kuzmas will perform with the Saint Xavier University Concert Band at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 8, at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago.

Canadian-Lithuanian concert pianist Kuzmas will perform Totentanz by Franz Liszt and Dana Wilson’s Vortex with the Concert Band. She is the winner of the 2002 Governor-General’s Gold Medal and has performed throughout Europe. She received a doctor of musical arts degree in piano performance from the University of British Columbia, and is currently an assistant professor of piano at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Under the direction of Erik Janners, D.M.A., director of bands and professor of percussion at Saint Xavier University, the Concert Band incorporates a variety of music for all University wind and percussion performers. The program will include Festive Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich (arranged by Hunsberger), When Jesus Wept by William Schuman, Wedding Dance by Jacques Press, Cartoon by Paul Hart and English Dances by Malcolm Arnold (arranged by Johnstone).

The concert is open to the public. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and visiting students. Admission is free for all Saint Xavier students, faculty and staff with a valid University ID.
