The Xavierite wins three journalism awards

Awards given at annual Illinois College Press Association convention

Chicago (Feb. 20, 2007) – The Xavierite, the student newspaper of Saint Xavier University, won three awards recently at the annual Illinois College Press Association convention. The awards recognize the very best in student journalism in the state of Illinois. 

The following Saint Xavier University students won awards:
·Anthony Gallelli, 2nd place, Open Division, advertisement campaign 
·Sean Reynolds, Honorable Mention, non-dailies over 4,000, headline writing 
·Megan Murphy & Chris Lonergan, Honorable Mention, non-dailies over 4,000, feature page design 
Rob Quicke, director of student media for Saint Xavier University, said, "I congratulate these winners who have achieved this recognition, and I am proud of the whole Xavierite staff who made 2006 such a great year."

There were more than 1,000 entries and only 300 winners. More than 400 students from across Illinois attended the awards banquet and convention. Quicke, who served the ICPA as second vice president, also organized this year's competition. At the annual ICPA board meeting on Feb. 17, ICPA members unanimously elected Quicke as first vice president.
